Q.
What is Stroller Mamas Fitness?
A.
Stroller Mamas Fitness is a total body workout that
moms can do with their babies close by and in their
strollers. The Stroller Mamas Fitness program
combines body toning and sculpting exercises with
power walking and cardio segments to provide participants with
a full body workout. It's not just a walk
in the park!
Q. Who can
participate?
A. Stroller Mamas Fitness encourages not only moms
to participate, but dads, grandparents, and nannies
as well. Anyone with a stroller age child is
welcome to participate. All participants are
strongly encouraged to check with their healthcare
provider before beginning this or any exercise
program. Participants of all fitness levels are
encouraged to attend.
Q.
Can pregnant moms participate in SMF classes?
A. Yes, SMF
is a great way for expecting moms to keep in shape
and connect with other moms. We have expecting moms
and instructors in our classes, therefore we make
sure to show modifications for all exercises.
All expecting SMF moms are asked to have their
doctor complete a "medical release form" before
starting our class.
Q. What do I need to bring with me to my Stroller
Mamas Fitness class?
A. Most strollers are suitable for classes, however
we do not suggest using an umbrella type stroller.
Most exercises require just you, your baby and the
stroller. Upon registering for a Stroller Mamas
Fitness membership, you will receive a membership
kit. The kit includes an exercise resistance tube
and jump rope,
which will be used during the workout. Please bring
these with you to class
each time you attend. Also remember to wear
comfortable exercise apparel, including sneakers,
and to dress your baby appropriately. Since most
classes are held outdoors (spring/summer only), sun block and a hat are
always advised to keep your baby shaded from the
sun. Additionally,
you will need to bring a towel or mat for floor exercises.
Other suggested items include water and a toy and/or
snack for your baby.
Q. How long
are the classes?
A.
Each class is approximately 60 minutes in length.
We begin each class with a brief warm-up, followed
by a cardio workout and toning segments using a
resistance tube. We
finish our workout with a cool down and stretch,
followed by some playtime for
the children.
Q. How often do I need to attend a class?
A. That is up to you! Come once, twice or as many
times a week as you’d like. However, in order
to achieve your fitness goals, we recommend you
attend at least 2 classes a week.
Q. What if my baby is fussy or won’t stay in his/her
stroller?
A. The needs of your baby always come first. Being
a mom myself, I understand the need to be
flexible and to work WITH your baby! There is never
any pressure to continue with a workout if your
child isn’t cooperating. Since toning and sculpting
segments are intertwined with power walking
segments, it is always possible for you to stop,
tend to your baby and then catch-up. Whenever
possible, instructors will engage children with
songs and games. We will always try our hardest to
make each workout enjoyable for both you and your
child!
Q. What
if the weather is bad?
A. Outdoor classes will be cancelled if weather is
severe. Please check our website one hour
before class start time if you are unsure.
In the fall and winter, classes are held indoors
at the Broadway
Mall, the Suffolk Y JCC and the Walt Whitman Mall.
Q. How will I know where to meet for my class?
A. Specific directions and meet up locations for
each class are posted on the website on the schedule
page. Please
arrive at least 5 minutes before the scheduled start
time. All classes will begin promptly at the start
time.
Q. What is the registration fee?
A. The
registration fee is a one-time fee that you pay
when you first join the Stroller Mamas Fitness
program. This fee includes, as a gift to you, a
Stroller Mamas Fitness backpack containing an
exercise resistance tube, a jump rope, a Stroller Mamas
Fitness water bottle, a maraca for your baby, and some coupons for
partnering businesses. You do not have to pay this
fee each time you renew your membership.
Q. What is the difference between the Unlimited Monthly Pass and the 10-Class Pass?
A. The Unlimited Monthly Pass is a monthly membership that allows
you to attend as many classes a month as you
would like. The 10-Class Pass gives you 10
classes to use whenever you want, within a
3 month period. For both
memberships, you do not have to attend the
same class each week. The program is
flexible and you may attend classes at any
location, whenever you choose. You attend
the classes that are convenient for you and
your baby.
Q. How do I renew my membership?
A. You will receive a reminder via
email when it is time to renew your
membership. At your next class you may
pick up a renewal form from your instructors
or you can download the form from our
website. Simply fill out the form and
make your payment online.
And
remember, for each friend you refer, you
will receive $10 off your renewal!!
